Frequently Asked Questions

Below are pictures of many of our pools that are well over 20 years old. We’ve also included the first pool Wideman Pools installed in 1980 in Bonne Terre, MO; this pool was installed July of 1980 and the pictures below were taken July 4th 2010. As you can see from the pictures, fiberglass pools are the only type of pool available that do not require expensive periodic renovations over their lifetime. Even after *almost* 40 years of this pool being fully operational, the finish has never been resurfaced or altered… saving the homeowner thousands over the lifetime of the pool, compared to concrete and vinyl pools.

There are many reasons but the most obvious would be experience. We have been installing ONLY FIBERGLASS POOLS since 1980 and under the same name. We own all of our equipment and building. We have installed nearly 1,000 pools in the St. Louis area and maintain a solid reputation for quality work. When you are putting a large investment in your house such as a pool, you want someone you can trust doing the job and someone you can call with questions years down the road.

Fiberglass pools are the only pool that can offer a lifetime warranty and they are nearly maintenance free, you never have to resurface the finish of the concrete or replace the liner. Nearly all in-ground containers are changing to fiberglass including septic tanks and even gas stations are switching to in-ground fiberglass tanks to hold corrosive gasoline!

Also if you look at products outside of the pool industry you will find that fiberglass is an amazingly strong & long lasting material. On older boats you will notice that the last part of the boat left is the fiberglass hull, long after the rest of the boat worn out. The same is true on cars, typically the metal fenders and frame begin to rust over time, while the fiberglass hoods and fenders never wear out.

Absolutely! Doing your own concrete is one way we work with many of our customers to help get the price of a new pool within their budget. We will simply subtract the cost of having the concrete installed from the price of the pool and we will go over any questions you or your contractor may have when the concrete is ready to be poured around the pool.

We will try to remove any rock that we encounter while installing the pool with our equipment if possible, however, if a breaker is needed the homeowner will be responsible for the cost of removing all of the rock. There may also be additional costs to remove the rock from the property and add an extra layer of gravel to cushion the pool from the rock.

Yes. They use less energy because the pump only needs to run a few hours per day and they require less chemicals because the non-porous finish will not allow algae or fungus to penetrate the walls. One of the biggest problems faced by homeowners and their pool is algae. Like a garden weed algae needs a place to put its roots. Once algae has rooted in your vinyl liner or concrete walls it is very difficult to fully eradicate. To prevent algae from rooting in a vinyl liner or concrete pool it is common practice to constantly barrage the pool with chemical treatments.

Generally 2-3 weeks depending upon the weather. Since we carry the most popular models of the pools we offer in stock, there is usually no wait time to have your pool shipped from across the country by the manufacturer. We also own all of our equipment so we can easily coordinate the install process without having to wait on crane and equipment contractors or rental equipment to become available. Just check out our installation page and look at the dates on the pictures. They can also be installed year round so you can get an early start on the next swimming season.

Yes! We can credit you back for using your own electrician but in most cities and counties they must be licensed in order to do the work.

The best way to explain this rumor is to go to your sink, fill it up with water, and place a bowl on top of the water. At first when the bowl is empty it floats but when you fill it up with water it sinks. No matter how much water you add or take out of the sink as long as the bowl is full of water it will stay submerged. This concept is no different with a fiberglass pool, as they are designed to stay full of water year round and ground water does not effect them as long as they stay full of water.

Any container whether it be concrete, fiberglass, steel, or something else will not float when it is full of water; and just the opposite is true that concrete, fiberglass, steel containers will all float if they are empty.

You simply need to look at modern day aircraft carriers to understand that this is an issue of buoyancy, not materials that will make any type of pool (including concrete and vinyl liner pools) float if drained improperly. If this rumor were true about fiberglass pools, then fuel tanks at gas stations and septic tanks for houses would not be fiberglass or they too would “pop” out.
